I received a copy of this book via Netgalley. This will not effect my review of the book. Josephine Bettendorf Warrick wants to will her beloved Talisa Island to her long ago friends of the High Tide Club. Not an easy task for the 99 year old terminally ill island owner as she has not seen or kept in touch with her friends of decades ago. In addition there are pressing legal issues to be addressed.
Brooke Trappnell 34, an attorney on mainland St. Ann, Georgia receives a call to come to Talisa Island to meet with Josephine.
Thus begins a complex tale of not just legal issues but if love, war, money, friendships, race relationships, societal norms and murder.
For the next few weeks, Brooke searches endeavors to meet Josephine’s stated goal. She finds a living member of the High Tide Club, questionable heirs and relations all the while struggling with her own life as a financially stressed, never married mother of a three year old.
What evolves is a story of complex interaction. Through twists, turns, conflicts and threats, the ladies of the High Tide Club gain respect and acceptance of each other.
Mary Kay Andrews develops diverse characters all of whom are real. Readers too, will come to accept and respect these well defined relatable characters who exist in a story of life as it exists.
Warning, reading this novel could lead to a skinny dipping addiction

The High Tide Club A Novel Mary Kay Andrews 9781250126061 Books Reviews

And just like that, she's back. I am a true MKA fan. I have read all her books and even have a signed copy of one of them. I wish I could say I liked them all, but the last 2 have not been high on my list of favorites. They felt rushed. This book is a combination of MKA and Kathy Hogan Trocheck (her first books under a pen name). This book has it all. Love, suspense, and drama. I did not want to put it down. Of course, it didn't hurt that it was set in the south Georgia barrier islands, which is my neck of the woods.
Absolutely riveting! I noticed on my it said “10 hours” to read. I didn’t time it but 3 nights and 2 hours one afternoon was all it took for me to complete! I loved the setting, plot, the characters and the historical time captured. The mysteries and unexpected turn were well written. I know I will enjoy re-reading this book many times! Yes, I’m that type of reader!

I absolutely love Mary Bliss, Weezie and the stories surrounding Savannah and Tybee Island. I love all the other books Ms Andrews has written as well. However, this one was different. Intriguing. Sentimental. Heartwarming. A glimpse of life when my grandmother was alive. I only know bits and pieces of her life. She was close to her sister and sister-in-laws. I am an only child. I have friends but no siblings. I do wish I had a tight group of friends like Josephine had back in her day! I can’t raise a glass to those ladies but I can praise the author for such a great work! Definitely in my top 5 favorites!

The one thing I really liked best was less use of expressive words that do not seem to belong but that is just me.

Read and enjoy but I warn you, you will find it hard to put down once you pick it up! Happy reading!
Old money, old secrets, a decrepit mansion on an island...what's not to like??? I couldn't stop reading this book. The characters were interesting and likeable. The setting interesting. The story intriguing.
Mary Kay Andrews is my favorite author. I LOVED her first books..They were laugh out loud funny.. I did not like the house mouse or what ever the cleaning company was very much..High Tide was another spin for Mary Kay Andrews... It was good..
I purchased this as an audio book, as most of my time with books is in the car. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a light, summer reading, perfect for by the pool, laying on the beach, or listening in the car. The only part about listening in the car, is that I wanted to continue listening outside of the car.
Very disappointed in the book and I am only halfway thru it. The excruciating minute by minute detail plus the annoying gimmick of traveling back and forth in time, was bad enough but they all these details fall away. The cat is a central character (I do love Maine Coon cats) and then is hardly mentioned. I was so bored, I skipped to the end to see what happened. This book had potential to be very good, the island, the rich only lady, but it did not live up to it.
I loved the Savannah books and I like the books she wrote under her real name, with the former cop and cleaning business, but I think her books are going down hill.
I am going to try one more time on this book and it my opinion changes, I will revise my review.
This is what I call a "kitchen sink" book, meaning the author threw everything into the story but... There are too many plot devices and too many characters that appeared briefly or just popped up for a page or two. It was hard to decide who and what the main story was about. Is it about Brooke's struggle as a runaway bride and a single mom? Is it about Josephine's dying wishes? Is it about sexual assault, unwanted pregnancies, adoption? Is it about money problems and crooks in the legal system? Is one scene just another variation of the movie "Vertigo"? I guess the main theme was about secrets, but few of them were compelling enough to care much about. Sorry, but I can't recommend it.
